Feet are the hardest working part of your body and probably the most neglected too. We take our feet for granted, forgetting what a complex and delicate piece of engineering they are and how important they are to us. Many of us blindly follow fashion trends that force us to squeeze our feet into narrow shoes, with dizzyingly high heels and tight buckles and straps all in the name of looking great – but feeling wretched!

Not everyone is blessed with small, narrow feet. For most people who have wider and larger feet, it's not easy to find a pair of shoes that fit well. Additionally, a fact that few people would like to admit is that many of us have feet that are mismatched! Getting a pair in two different sizes for both your feet may seem like an impossible dream, and people end up getting shoes in larger sizes, or a frumpy-looking pair that missed the fashion bus entirely. Or we end up paying big bucks for a bespoke pair.

However, all is not gloom and doom!

Today there are hundreds of companies both brick-and-mortar and on-line, that offer shoes in wider fits and unusual sizes. Many of them, like the Padder's brand began nearly a century ago, with stocking traditional sizes and fits, till they discovered that what many of their customers really needed were wider fits, stronger support, plenty of toe-room, cushioning in the right places and soft and supple uppers. All these features needed to be available in a variety of sizes and half-sizes for optimum level of comfort.

Some of the designs are also suitable for use in orthopedic fittings. These designs have a removable foot-bed, which allows doctor-recommended support devices to be fitted inside the shoe to distribute pressure evenly, align the joints while walking etc. These devices are especially useful for seniors to prevent foot-ulcers, rubbing and chafing in diabetic patients. Some athletes also prefer to wear such inners to reduce the chances of inflammation and swelling when they wear normal shoes. Features like dual-fit and memory foam are other great additions to wide fitting shoes. Refloxology principles also demand that your feet are kept comfortable, healthy and flexible at all times for the general health of your body and mind.

An advantage that customers have today is that wider fit shoes are available in the latest designs, colors and fabrics. So whether it's ballerinas, flip-flops, beach-wear, running shoes, boots, stilettos, pumps, court shoes, office-wear, walking shoes, formals or dress shoes you're looking for, they're available in a fit that's tailor-made for you in the color and brand of your choice.

Wide Fitting Shoes

If you've ever drooled over glamorous looking shoes in a shop window only to turn away in despair because you know your extra-wide feet would never fit into them, take heart! There's no need to endure the agony of ill-fitting shoes simply because they look good or they're the latest in the fashion mags. Most women and some men too believe in the adage “No pain, no gain” so they're willing to put up with a certain amount of discomfort and pain if they feel they look smart and stylish.

But uncomfortable shoes are not only painful but they can be a real health hazard. Tissues located at the bottom of your feet can become squeezed and inflamed, causing damage to this delicate area and result in long-term heel pain. Bunions, corn and calluses are caused by constant friction and can be extremely painful and ugly-looking. If you persist in wearing ill-fitting shoes, you could cause permanent and irreversible changes to the shape of your feet, making them misshapen and bent. Claw-feet, hammer-toes and ingrown toenails are some of the side-effects, while fungal attacks, swelling of the feet, skin allergies and rashes could be some of the immediate result of wearing badly fitting shoes.
